Direct Pipe

Pre-fabricated steel pipelines of 30" to 56" pushed into the ground while it is excavated, in one step, over drives of up to 1,200 m.

Direct Pipe combines two proven technologies. A micro tunnelling machine excavates the ground, and a Pipe Thruster grips the pre-fabricated pipeline around its circumference and pushes it in behind the machine.

The pipeline is laid at the same time as the excavation, so the borehole is supported along its whole length from the first metre. This makes the method well suited to laying large-diameter steel product pipe directly, from 30″ to 56″.

Under the right project conditions Direct Pipe has clear advantages over older laying methods and is a practical alternative to HDD and conventional pipe jacking.

DWCC operates a Herrenknecht Direct Pipe system from Germany for large-diameter pipeline crossings.
